The 8th Chofu City Fencing Spring Competition (Hosted by: Chofu City Fencing Association, MNH Sports Co., Ltd.) will be held on March 20, 2026.

The details are listed below. Please review the tournament guidelines for further information and submit your application by March 2, 2026, with your club or organization compiling the entries.

*High school fencers with about one year of experience may enter the “18–39” category.

You will be notified later whether participation is possible.
*Depending on the number of applications, the 18+ categories may be combined.
*Team events are open to junior high and high school fencers with about one year of
experience.

Japanese School Grade Classification

(Official Criteria – 2025 Academic Year)

The age categories in this competition are determined strictly according to the Japanese school grade system, not by international age-group standards.

Japan’s academic year runs from April 1 to March 31 of the following year.
The classifications below are the official and exclusive criteria used to determine eligibility for this competition, based on the 2025 Japanese academic year (April 1, 2025 – March 31, 2026).

All participants, including those from overseas, must determine their competition category solely according to the birth date ranges listed below.

School Grade and Birth Date Classification

(Official Eligibility Criteria – 2025 Academic Year)
Elementary School
• Grades 1–2
Born between April 2, 2017 – April 1, 2019
• Grades 3–4
Born between April 2, 2015 – April 1, 2017
• Grades 5–6
Born between April 2, 2013 – April 1, 2015

Junior High School (Grades 7–9)
• Born between April 2, 2010 – April 1, 2013

Important Notes (Mandatory)
• Competition categories are determined only by the birth date ranges above,
regardless of the participant’s current age, school enrollment, or education system in their home country.
• Entries submitted under an incorrect category may be rejected or reclassified at the discretion of the organizer.
• Category changes after entry are not permitted.
• If there is any uncertainty, participants must contact the event organizer before submitting their entry.

■Eligibility

Open to all nationalities and places of residence

 

■Entry Fee

– Individual event: JPY 5,000 per event
– Team event: JPY 13,000 per team
– Sitting foil: JPY 5,000
(JPY2,000 if also entering another category)

 

■Application Method

Please complete your application via the designated online form by Monday, March 2, 2026.

【Team Event Entry】
– Single or double entries are allowed.
– The tournament office will assign or match players to fill missing weapon categories.

– For single/double entries, apply by Saturday, February 21, 2026.
– Please note that team formation may not always be possible, and entry is not guaranteed.

– Those applying for single or double entries should submit by Saturday, February 21, 2026.

When applying, please provide your PayPal account information.
The entry fee will be billed to the specified PayPal account.
Entry fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.

■Equipment Requirements

– Uniforms and plastrons must be 350N or higher.
– Women must wear a hard chest protector (no need for soft pad cover).
– Masks: 350N acceptable; safety to be checked visually by referees.
– Velcro masks are also allowed.
– Gloves and cuffs may be separate types.
– For safety, 800N plastrons and gloves are recommended

 

■Weapon Check

– No pre-check; referees will inspect weapons on the piste
– Equipment faults:
– 1st offense: Yellow card
– 2nd and onward: Red card

 

■Important Notes

Safety Management

1. Prior Health Management and Consultation with a Physician
-Participants with pre-existing medical conditions that may affect participation in the competition, such as heart disease, arrhythmia, diabetes, high blood pressure, epilepsy, respiratory illness, or any other condition, must consult with their primary physician beforehand and determine whether participation is permissible.

-Individuals who have previously experienced symptoms such as fainting, loss of consciousness, chest pain, palpitations, or extreme shortness of breath are strongly recommended to undergo medical examination.

-If you are taking daily medication or undergoing routine treatment, please ensure you participate under sufficient self-management of your condition.

2. On-Site Health Check on the Day of the Event
-If you are feeling unwell (dizziness, chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath, numbness, dehydration, fever, extreme fatigue, etc.), we strongly recommend refraining from participating or withdrawing from the competition even partway through.

-If any of the above symptoms appear during the competition, immediately cease competing and notify the nearest staff member.

-Continuing the competition by pushing yourself despite poor health may lead to a serious accident. Please be fully aware of this risk.

3. Declaration of Medical History and Physical Condition
-If special attention is required regarding your health condition, please notify the Event Office in advance (individual arrangements will be made as necessary).

-However, the final decision regarding participation rests with the participant, regardless of whether a declaration is made.

Scope of Organizer’s Responsibility and Compliance

1. Scope of Organizer’s Responsibility and Insurance
-The organizer will provide first aid for sudden illness or injury during the competition, but will not be held responsible for accidents or incidents caused by pre-existing conditions or poor physical health.

-If emergency transport is deemed necessary, it will be arranged; however, the subsequent treatment and related expenses will be the responsibility of the participant.

-Participants understand the health risks associated with participation in this event and will participate at their own risk and responsibility.

-Competitors and coaches (including those receiving lessons) are advised to individually enroll in personal accident insurance, personal liability insurance, and other relevant policies.

2. Compliance with Competition Rules and Venue Usage
-Practicing outside of designated areas may cause injuries or accidents and inconvenience other facility users.

-If practicing outside of designated areas is discovered, the right to participate in this competition will be revoked upon the judgment of the Association, regardless of the reason.

Photos and videos may be taken by organizers and used for:

– Posting names and results on the tournament/association websites

– Locker rooms in the gymnasium may be used.
– Please follow staff instructions when leaving personal belongings.
– Only athletes and accompanying coaches may enter the competition area.
– Be considerate of other users of the facility.
– Keep your valuables secure.
– Drinks without lids are not allowed in the venue.
