Important Notice: Venue, Schedule & Competition Format Changes

First and foremost, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued understanding and support of the Chofu City Fencing Association.

We regret to inform you of important changes regarding The 8th Chofu Fencing Autumn Competition, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Due to a misunderstanding regarding the facility reservation schedule with the gymnasium, we have discovered that the competition cannot be held at the originally planned venue and time.

After urgent discussions with the facility management, we have successfully secured the small gymnasium at Chofu City Sports Center from 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 24.

As a result, the venue, competition schedule, and certain aspects of the competition format will be changed as outlined below.

1. Event Overview

Date: Saturday, October 24, 2026 (unchanged)

Venue: Small Gymnasium, Chofu City Sports Center

Registration Opens: 11:30 AM

Facility Access Begins: 12:00 PM

Competition Begins: 12:30 PM

Expected Completion: 8:30 PM

2. Estimated Start Times by Category

The following times are estimates based on the current schedule.

Junior High School Boys

Elementary School Grades 1–3 Mixed

1:30 PM

General Women

4:00 PM

Elementary School Grades 4–6 Boys

5:00 PM

Elementary School Grades 4–6 Girls

6:30 PM

High School and General Men

Junior High School Girls

The call deadline for each category is 30 minutes before its scheduled start time.

Please note that these start times are estimates and may be adjusted depending on the progress of the competition on the day.

From 6:00 PM onward, additional pistes will become available. We will therefore work to improve the efficiency of the competition and aim to complete all bouts by 8:30 PM.

3. Warm-Up Arrangements

As the facility will not be available until 12:00 PM, the time available for warming up inside the gymnasium will be limited.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, but we kindly ask all participating fencers to complete as much of their warm-up as possible in advance, using nearby parks or other suitable outdoor areas.

When warming up outdoors, please be mindful of your surroundings, prioritize safety, and avoid inconveniencing other members of the public.

4. Changes to Categories and Competition Format

Due to operational requirements, the following changes will be made:

The High School Boys and University Men categories will be combined into a single category: High School and General Men.

The advancement rate from the preliminary pools to the direct elimination rounds will be 80%.

We sincerely apologize that these changes will affect the competition conditions originally communicated to participants.

For Participants Registered in Two Categories

Due to scheduling constraints, participants who have registered for two categories are kindly requested to compete in the lower age category only for this tournament.

The entry fee for the cancelled category will be refunded at the venue on the day of the competition.

5. Refunds

Participants who are unable to attend due to the changes in venue, schedule, or competition format will be eligible for a full refund of their entry fees.

If you would like to request a refund, please contact the Competition Secretariat.

6. Our Sincere Apologies

We deeply apologize to all fencers, parents and guardians, coaches, and other individuals involved for the considerable inconvenience and concern caused by these last-minute changes.

We recognize the seriousness of this situation and acknowledge that, as the organizer, we should have conducted more thorough checks in advance to prevent such an issue.

Although only a short time remains before the competition, we are committed to making the necessary operational arrangements to ensure that all participants can compete with confidence and that the event runs as smoothly as possible.

For those coming by car, please use Parking Lot 2 (paid) or nearby coin parking.
Parking Lot 1 is not available.

● Over-age participation may be permitted. However, participation may not be possible depending on
the tournament schedule.
● In the case of a duplicate entry involving an over-age category, priority will be given to the
participant’s regular age category. The over-age entry will initially be accepted as a waiting-list entry.
Once the schedule has been finalized, we will inform participants whether they can compete.
● Categories may be combined depending on the number of entries received.

■Schedule (Under Review)

■Equipment

● Uniforms and protective jackets must be 350N or higher.
● Female participants must wear a hard chest protector. A pad cover is not required.
● 350N masks are permitted, but referees will visually check the masks for safety.
● Velcro-type masks are permitted.
● Gloves and cuffs may be separate-type equipment.
● For safety reasons, the use of an 800N underarm protector and 800N gloves is recommended.

■Weapon Inspection

There will be no advance weapon inspection.
Weapons and equipment will be checked by referees on the piste.
If equipment is found to be defective or does not meet the requirements:
● First offense: Yellow card
● Second and subsequent offenses: Red card

■Competition Format

Preliminary Round: Pool format
Main Round: Direct Elimination
All participants will advance to the main round.

■Eligibility

Participation is open regardless of residence or nationality.

■Entry Fee

JPY 5,000 per event

■Registration

Applications must be submitted through clubs or organizations.

Residents, employees, and students of Chofu City may also apply individually using the same application form.
If you do not receive a confirmation email within three days after submitting your application form, please
contact us.

Bank account information for payment will be provided in the application confirmation email.
Please make the payment under the name of the representative/applicant.
Your entry will be considered complete once payment has been confirmed.

■Important Information

Safety
● All participants and coaches who provide lessons or training must obtain their own personal liability
insurance and accident/injury insurance.
● The organizers assume no responsibility for any injuries, accidents, or other incidents occurring during
matches, practice, or other activities. Participants are responsible for taking all necessary precautions.
● Practicing outside the designated areas may cause injuries or accidents and may disturb other facility
users. If a participant is found practicing outside the designated areas, the Chofu City Fencing
Association reserves the right to disqualify the participant from the competition, regardless of the
reason.
Handling of Personal Information
The Chofu City Fencing Association will use personal information collected through the registration process
only for purposes related to the operation of this competition.
The organizers may also take photographs and videos at the venue and use them for the following purposes:
● Announcements and displays at the venue on the day of the competition
● Publication of participant names and competition results on the Chofu City Fencing Association
website and the competition website
● Competition reports and other related materials
If you have any specific requests regarding the use of photographs or personal information, please indicate them
in the Remarks section of the application form.

■Other Information

● The changing rooms at the sports center are available for use.
● Please follow the instructions provided by the tournament staff regarding where to store your
belongings.
● Only participants and accompanying coaches are permitted to enter the competition area.
● Other organizations and facility users may also be present at the sports center. Please behave
appropriately and use the facilities with consideration for others.
● Participants are responsible for the management of their own valuables.
● Moving around the facility while carrying beverages without a lid is prohibited.
